Job Description for Executive Director

Location: Delaware OH
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt
Employment Type: Year-round Full Time
Reporting to: Board of Directors
Salary Range: $55,000-$75,000 per year

Description:
The Executive Director will be responsible for providing leadership in planning and implementing goals that positively impact the county’s tourism industry by working with the Board of Directors, the Destination Delaware County staff and community partners. This individual will provide the direction to effectively achieve the organization’s mission, to assure the financial strength of the organization and to lead the organization and its partners to significantly increase the growth of the tourism industry in Delaware County.
This position requires a savvy, motivated and visionary leader, well versed in organizational management, marketing, product/destination development, stakeholder development and human resource management. A highly visible position in the community, the Executive Director will be in a position requiring tact, diplomacy and good judgment in making decisions which will reflect upon the entire staff, Board of directors and organization.


Responsibilities:
 Assume full accountability for executive leadership and management, ensuring that the overall mission and strategies of the organization are consistently implemented and maintained in accordance with the by-laws and policies of the Board of directors.
 Be accountable for developing and overseeing the implementation of annual budget. Propose annual budget to the Finance Committee and the Board for approval.
 Be accountable for developing and supervising the implementation of annual marketing plan. Propose an annual business/marketing plan to submit to the Marketing Committee and the Board for approval.
 Develop and implement effective strategies, policies, and processes for the continued growth/expansion of the organization. This includes, but is not limited to, expanding revenue options for the organization.
 Develop and execute creative strategies designed to promote the county to local, state, regional, national and international audiences.
 Takes direction from the Board regarding community engagement and messaging on behalf of the organization. Is the primary point of contact and spokesperson for the organization.
 Expand stakeholder relationships and engagement. Establish and maintain effective ongoing communications and relationships with community and government leaders, business and
cultural institution leaders, conference and event planners and the local hospitality and business community.
 Lead and inspire an experienced and accountable team of marketing professionals (staff and/or vendors).
 Hire, train, supervise and evaluate personnel, coordinate staff training, establish goals for individuals and organization and assist staff with meeting those goals, and oversee implementation of discipline and termination procedures.
 Work with accountant to maintain the financial records and accounts, to pay bills, manage the payroll and assume overall financial responsibility for all accounts.
 Work with the Board and staff to identify opportunities for new programs and new directions for the organization. Actively participate in the development and implementation of these programs. Design performance measurements for Board approval.
 Ensure that appropriate reports are presented to Board members and stakeholders of Destination Delaware County.
 The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
 Other duties as assigned by the Board.


Desired Skills:
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of growth and leadership in the tourism field, an ability to build partnerships within the community and the ability to identify and act on changes within the tourism market. Excellent communication skills will be essential in sharing the Destination Delaware County story, in sharing regular updates on the success of the tourism industry and in attracting and retaining an effective team of professionals.
 Three or more years of experience in a leadership and/or management role.
 Demonstrated success in Destination Marketing or a similar industry; conversant in current internet and digital forms of Destination Marketing.
 Polished communicator with excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
 Approachable with excellent interpersonal skills that lead to productive relationships and collaborative partnerships.
 Able to effectively and collaboratively manage outside independent contractors to meet budgets and project goals.
 Capable of prioritizing and managing multiple projects.
 Strong understanding of financial statements, budgets and reporting.
 Event planning, budgeting and management experience.
 Proficient with Microsoft Office.
 Travel as required.
 Experience in working with a Board of Directors.
 Experience in working for or with non-profits.
 Flexibility to work varied schedules including evenings and weekends.
