Position Summary:

The Executive Director will serve as the top staff executive for the WVCB and has the overall responsibility of promoting Westerville as a desirable destination for leisure and business travelers and increase convention and meeting bookings as well as group and tour business. This person will work directly with the WVCB Board of Trustees on policymaking and strategy for the organization and will serve as the primary spokesperson for Westerville Visitor and Convention Bureau.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day business operation of the Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • Office management and administration of the visitor center
  • Strategic planning, including development of long and short-term organization goals
  • Administer the budgeting process and oversee the maintenance of accounting and financial books and records of the Bureau.
  • Oversee the operations, functions, resources and personnel required to implement the goals of the Bureau including full or part time employees and volunteers
  • Prepare financial, statistical, marketing, sales and other reports of activities of the Bureau.
  • Direct marketing and promotion for the tourism industry in Westerville; including but not limited to:
  • Managing content and development work, and monitoring analytics for all digital resources including org and related social channels
  • Leading online reputation management by monitoring and responding to digital chatter, blogs, online review sites and social platforms
  • Planning and development of all collateral and sales materials
  • Planning, execution, and measurement of all traditional and digital advertising
  • Planning, execution, and measurement of all public relations efforts and media outreach
  • Supporting sales efforts and helping maximize opportunities at tourism-related businesses and facilities in Westerville (hotels, community event centers, group tour destinations)
  • Working with tour companies/organizations for the purpose of increasing motor coach travel to Westerville
  • Serving as the Bureau representative to business and community groups
  • Representing WVCB in trade organizations
  • Attending industry-appropriate meetings, events, and trade shows
  • Assisting in the promotion of local events and encouraging the creation of new community events that drive visitation to and appreciation of Westerville
  • Participating in government relations in the interest of promoting the tourism industry
  • Working efficiently and cooperatively with various community groups (City of Westerville, Chamber of Commerce, Uptown Inc, Westerville Uptown Merchants Association)
  • Be a liaison with other local/community groups as assigned by the Board of Trustees
  • Overseeing the preparation and organization of the monthly board of director’s meetings- minutes, financial reports, committee reports, and office reports
  • Other duties that may be assigned by the Board
  • Prospecting and securing of grants and other funding sources when appropriate/applicable
  • Requires considerable knowledge of the travel industry, destination sales, marketing and communications, and knowledge of services and activities of a convention & visitors bureau

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, marketing, communications, public administration OR equivalent combination of education or experience
  • Experience in multichannel marketing and event planning for a VCB or similar tourism or hospitality focused businesses
  • Knowledge of budget development and financial management

  • Knowledge of tourism, hospitality and destination sales and marketing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sales, trade show, and public speaking experience
  • Experience in reporting to a board
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Understanding of analytics and conversion analysis
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Self-starter who is able to work effectively in an entrepreneurial environment with minimal instruction or supervision
