Union County Tourism
Position: Director, Union County Tourism, a division of the Union County Chamber of Commerce
Employment Status: Exempt/Full-time/Salary
Reports to: CEO of the Union County Chamber of Commerce and the Union County Tourism Board of Trustees
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
Serves as the strategic and visionary leader responsible for developing, directing and overseeing the implementation of the mission, strategic plan, operations, fiscal oversight, staff supervision, community and governmental relations and board governance of the organization. Acts as the lead spokesperson and is a passionate and involved advocate for the tourism industry locally, regionally and nationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee UCT’s vision and business operations, assess industry trends as potential growth areas, create new business opportunities, reset the organizational flowchart as needed.
- Provide the direction, marketing strategy, creativity, initiative, and managerial leadership necessary to attract and secure meetings, sports, leisure, and group visitors.
- Report to nine-member board of trustees on all organizational matters and business operations (legal, financial, policy, personnel matters, strategic planning/vision) including regular communication with the Union County Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees.
- Provide strategic direction regarding market research, data collection, performance metrics, and analysis of all information that improves decision making and creates compelling stories of organizational effectiveness, accountability and transparency.
- Spearhead efforts with the Union County Commissioners and City of Marysville to maintain tourism funding.
- Oversee the recruitment, development, evaluation, management and compensation of all tourism team members.
- Provide team with strategic direction and goals as they develop an annual sales andarketing plan.
- Develop the annual budget and oversee the process of ongoing financial management throughout the year to ensure that all functions of UCT are consistently reviewed for cost effectiveness to ensure optimum use of all resources and make recommendations on changes to strengthen the organization.
- Create and maintain relationships with state, county, city, village, and township municipal leadership and elected officials by providing consistent updates and information regarding the impact of tourism in Union County.
- Establish partnerships, collaboration, communication with tourism industry representatives; harnessing opportunities for economic impact, as well enthusiasm, support and vision for the UCT mission and strategies.
- Oversee the operation of Union Station 1820 Welcome Center, the official visitors center of Union County.
- Manage and implement the process for annual evaluation and execution of the tourism grant applications, awards, and disbursement of funds.
- Represent UCT through service on boards and committees of appropriate local, regional, state and national organizations balancing both tourism industry and broader community interests.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communications skills.
- A track record of strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving experience.
- Proven leadership and motivational skills with the ability to develop a highly motivated, resourceful, and productive staff.
- Networking and stakeholder management experience, including strong leadership with internal and external customers and stakeholders; developing strategic alliances; experience with all aspects of public and community relations, working for and with a board of directors, as well as with elected officials at all levels.
- Previous CVB leadership experience including industry-related sales and marketing experience, proven financial management, review, and oversight; developing, managing, and delivering strategic and long-range planning initiatives; and, proven skills in managing all aspects of destination marketing organizational needs.
EDUCATION
A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, management or a related field of study is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in the professional environment of the Union County Chamber of Commerce, located in Uptown Marysville, OH.
- This is a full-time position, and typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with comp time available.
- Travel as needed to industry conferences and board meetings.
